If you're new to hair extensions, or even if you're a seasoned hair extension wearer, you're likely to have many questions. This section aims to address the most common questions asked about hair extensions and hair extension aftercare. If you get through the whole page and there's a question that hasn't been addressed, please feel free to contact me directly so I can help you.
How long do hair extensions last?
The answer to this depends on a few variables, in particular, the colour of the hair, the quality of the hair extensions and how well aftercare instructions are followed by the claint, once the hair is installed.
Blonde shades tend to have a shorter life span than darker colours, and this is due to the bleaching and colouring process that the hair undergoes right at the beginning of hair extension production.
With good aftercare, Pearl Rock Hair Extensions blonde and light-coloured hair will last around 12 months and darker colours up to 18 months or longer.
How often do I need to have a maintenance appointment to get my hair extensions lifted?
For all weft extensions, it is recommended to have maintenance (or a 'lift' or 'move up') done every six weeks. This can stretch out to seven or eight weeks for clients with thicker hair, while some clients with finer hair prefer their maintenance every four to five weeks.
For good scalp health, it is recommended to keep the time in between maintenance appointments, to no longer than eight weeks, as longer wear can put strain on the scalp, while the regrowth can become susceptible to matting.
Micro bead, nano bead and tape extensions should be maintained at six weeks.
Keratin bonds should be maintained at least every four months, and more frequently for clients with finer hair.
Will hair extensions damage my hair or scalp?
If hair extensions are installed correctly, your hair and scalp shouldn't experience damage, however, some clients may experience a degree of hair thinning with extension wear or the feeling of having less hair than before having extensions. This is often due to the wearer becoming used to the increased amount of hair that is experienced while wearing hair extensions.
I have been educated with a focus on providing healthy, safe and comfortable hair extension installs to ensure my clients don't experience adverse effects or discomfort.
You're not a hairdresser, why would I choose you for my hair extensions?
While I'm not a hairdresser, I have had in-person training from one of Australia's leading hair extension educators and have attended three of her Melbourne masterclasses as an assistant educator. Dedicated to hair extensions only, allows me to focus my full attention and development on hair extensions methods and techniques, keeping up to date with the latest hair extensions technology and continuously improving my skills in safe and healthy installation.
I have worn a number of different types of hair extensions over the past 20 years, and I know what feels comfortable, what doesn't, what causes damage and what looks most natural and blended with one's own hair.
I am qualified in garment construction and have been sewing with a needle and thread since childhood. Stitching a weft is second nature to me and my meticulous and thorough attention to detail will ensure a neat, comfortable, healthy and seamless install.

2 rows - 1.5-2.5 hours
3 rows - 2.5 hours
All other methods - allow one hour per 50 grams
How much hair will I need?
The amount of hair your need depends on a few factors, namely;
1. How long your hair is now,
2. How thick or fine your hair is now,
3. How much length you want to achieve, and
4. How much volume you want to achieve.
The key to beautiful, natural-looking hair extensions, is using your own hair as a guide to determine the right volume of extensions required to achieve the most realistic, blended look. This is easily determined in during a 1:1 consultation.
Why is your hair so expensive?
The hair that I use on all my clients is luxury-quality. As a long time hair extension wearer, I have had my fair share of questionable hair extensions, When I started Pearl Rock Hair Extensions, I knew that I only wanted to use top-end, luxury-quality hair extensions on my clients. Not only do they look better, they wear better over time and they feel better
Where do you source your hair from?
I have several suppliers from whom I source hair. This means that I have access to a much larger range of colours, which would be impossible with only one supplier.
I use hair sourced from China, where they have some of the world's most advanced hair extension manufacturing technology and state of the art production processes.
Why do I need a consultation?
Primarily, we need to do a consultation in order to achieve a perfect colour match. During the consultation, I will also determine the right amount of hair for you and advise on how hair extensions can work into your lifestyle.
Consultations are 30 minutes long and are charged at $50.00. If you decide to go ahead with a hair extension package from PRHE, the $50.00 will be deducted to your total package price.
Do you charge a cancellation fee?
Yes, cancellation fees do apply if your appointment is cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment time, or if you are no show to the appointment.
How about refunds? Can I get a refund?
Refunds are not provided for change of mind or cancellation of order, once the hair has been ordered.
Any requests for a refund will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the legislative obligations of Pearl Rock Hair Extensions and the statutory rights of the client.
