Hair Extension Aftercare
GENERAL HAIR EXTENSION AFTERCARE
- Always use high-quality, professional hair care products which are free from sulphate, parabens and protein.
- Use a heat protectant product before styling your hair with hot tools or blow drying your hair.
- Moisturise your hair with a lightweight serum daily, every two days, minimum.
- Tie hair in a loose ponytail, plait or braid for sleeping. For extra care, sleep on a silk pillowcase or wear a silk bonnet.
- When washing hair, apply shampoo to the roots of your hair and gently massage with fingertips, working around the top of the hair extensions. Do not lather the lengths of the hair, let the lather from your roots cleanse the lengths during rinsing. Shampoo twice and then condition lengths of hair and rinse thoroughly.
- Gently pat hair dry with a towel, being careful not to be too rough and tangle the lengths of the hair. A microfibre towel is recommended.
- Do not brush wet hair, use a comb instead. Hair absorbs a lot of water when wet, making it very elastic and more susceptible to breakage.
- Avoid too much heat on the root of your extensions, as the heat can cause them to soften and shed strands of hair.
- When combing or brushing hair, start at the ends of the hair. Hold the lengths in your other hand to support the hair and brush or comb the ends, working upwards until you reach the top of your hair. This will ease out any tangles at the lowest point of your hair first, alleviating pressure on your roots and the top of the weft.
- Ensure you keep up to date with your hair extension maintenance having them removed and refitted regularly to maintain the health of your scalp and roots.
KERATIN BOND AFTERCARE
First 48 Hours After Application
- Avoid washing your hair within the first 48 hours of your keratin bond installation. Give the bonds time to fully set.
- Don't tie your hair up. Keep it down to avoid putting stress on the bonds.
- Avoid getting hair wet, excessively sweaty, swimming, or exposure to high humidity.
- Sleep with care. Tie hair loosely in a low ponytail or braid to prevent tangling.
General aftercare
- Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfates can weaken the keratin bonds.
- Keep conditioners and treatments from mid-lengths to ends only, to prevent slippage.
- Rinse thoroughly. Product buildup can weaken the bonds.
- Always dry the bonds thoroughly. Damp bonds can weaken over time.
- Avoid heat directly on the bonds. It can cause them to melt or slip.
- Brush regularly with a loop or extension brush. Start from the bottom and work your way up.
- Detangle gently every morning and night to reduce matting and pulling.
- Don’t use oil or alcohol-based products near the bond. They can cause slippage or deterioration of the keratin bond.
